1. BUILDING BRIDGES OVER THE VOID OF VOICE!
When I returned from Europe years ago I brought back a chronic asthma that I discovered to be so common, it is frightening. I had a constant dry cough and shortness of breath and it made me so constantly tired, tight in the chest and sent me hoarse. Although the puffers I was prescribed seemed to keep it at bay, the asthma was never really 'gone' and the puffers has side effects I did not fully understand when I began using them!
In the end I was lucky enough to experience a 'spontaneous remission', so you will rarely hear me cough now, but it did teach me some great lessons about our world of vocal health. It taught me that it can be confusing, misleading and sometimes just plain mystifying unless you know where to go and who to ask.
My specific area of voice now is more the connection of mind, body and voice, which I call, 'Vocal Intelligence'. It is more about the psychology than health. Now, if you think the information on vocal health is fraught, you should try vocal psychology!
In this case it is not so much a matter of misleading and confusing material, as it is a complete gaping hole.

The masterclass was fantastic. You have a fascinating ability to keep yourself and the course participants grounded with the task at hand, yet unleash each participant's hidden capabilities. The humour, the individual treatment and the group work created a positive empowering environment. Thanks for your willingness to share. I finished the short series knowing more about myself and how to best use this new found knowledge. Bob Mitchell, Leadership Development Consultant
Your work is amazing and I would love to implant all that you have come to know into my little brain! Tracey Hamilton, Learning and Development Manager, Intimo
Thanks so much for this work - it really is amazingly informative, useful, and exciting! Jenny Krapez, IVF Laboratory, Melbourne IVF
I was at your recent workshop at Mcmillan, Warragul. So good, learnt so much, had so much fun!!! just wanted to let you know how wonderful you were. Heather Woolcock, ECG
The Vocal Intelligence workshop with Dr Louise Mahler was absolutely brilliant! With grace and precision Louise took us on a journey of physiological self-discovery. I went to her course to be a more commanding presenter and learn strategies to retain my energy throughout training delivery. Well I got so much more than that! With surgical precision and world class expertise Louise gave me techniques and tools tailored specifically for me, to not only find my own voice but express it with commanding clarity and confidence. Thank you Louise, I vow to send anyone who wants to learn how to speak powerfully to this course. It is an absolute must in my books! Anneli Blundell, Principal - Beyond Coaching
Louise's enthusiastic, hands-on approach to vocal training seemingly works miracles in no time at all, by re-emphasising the knowledge and habits we all start off with but somehow lose track of along the way. It can be a struggle to overcome old habits but, once you do, it's extraordinary how comfortable and natural it feels. Add to this a healthy boost of increased confidence in presentation skills and one leaves at the end of the course - at the end of each session! - primed and ready to take on the world - and also to view how others are presenting to us in a whole new and informative light.
Louise's teaching style is amusing and friendly, while at the same time being direct, affirming, and - more importantly - personally targeted, while simultaneously benefiting the whole group. She is not afraid to share her own experiences or vulnerabilities in a way that puts you at your ease instantly, and makes the course a shared experience rather than the traditional dry, student/teacher "preachy" relationship. Classes fly by in no time at all, it seems, yet you go away knowing so much more than you did before - without feeling overwhelmed or unable to process all that information.
The class was without question one of the best I have ever attended, and I cannot recommend it, or Louise, highly enough. Paul Leech, Newlands Community Centre
